West
Coast Cederberg/Kagga Kamma Reserve Karoo
A short accommodated
safari conducted in 4x4 vehicles, incl. English/
Afrikaans speaking driver-guide, full-board
& sightseeing programme.
The tour takes us via the beautiful West Coast
of South Africa and its neighbouring inland
areas. It travels the jewel of the West Coast
with its countless natural attractions, using
the road R27 to Langebaan and Velddrift, to
the overnight destination at Clanwilliam. From
Clanwilliam to the Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve
we will be travelling through the Cederberg
mountains. Well-known landmarks like the Wolfberg
Cracks and the Maltese Cross can be observed
in this area.
Day 1: West Coast and
Clanwilliam Area
Depart north from Cape Town
on scenic routes along the Western Cape Coast
to Langebaan and Clanwilliam. Clanwilliam is
known for the variety it offers the tourist.
As one of the oldest towns in the country it
is rich in history and will satisfy nature lovers,
adventurous, flower viewers, water sportsmen
as well as those who just wish to enjoy sightseeing.
It is in the centre of various flower (in season)
and historical routes, hiking trails and rock
art viewing. This heart of the Rooibos world
includes farming in fruit, vegetables and sheep
and is known for its veldskoen factory. The
Clanwilliam Dam Resort is a popular holiday
resort for water sport enthusiasts and angling.
The Clanwilliam dam is renowned as the best
in the Western Cape for water skiing. The Ramskop
Nature Reserve at the dam is home to numerous
endemic wild flower species and a famous visiting
spot in August and September. Lunch will be
enjoyed at Muisbosskerm or similar.Overnight/
Full-board – Clanwilliam Lodge or similar
Day 2: Cederberg Mountains
and Kagga Kamma Karoo
An early morning departure
from Clanwilliam Lodge will be rewarded with
the experience of spectacular scenery via Wuppertal
direct to Kagga Kamma National Park. A scenic
route offering panoramic views of the sea in
the west and the Cederberg Mountains in the
east is set high in the "Engelsman-se-berg"
(Englishman’s Mountain) that overlooks
the picturesque valley in which the towns of
Graafwater and Clanwilliam are situated. Travelling
through the Cederberg mountains, well-known
landmarks like the Wolfberg Cracks and to the
Maltese Cross can be observed as well as the
observatory just past the Sanddrif Farm. We
will visit the Stadsaal Caves in the Cederberg
Conservancy and take a look at the Bushman paintings.
Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserve South Africa
is located in an untouched wilderness area south
of the magnificent Cederberg Mountains, three
hours from Cape Town near Ceres, South Africa.
The reserve is well known for its scenic beauty
and dramatic rock formations typical of the
Cedarberg, has a rich cultural heritage with
hundreds of Bushman/San rock paintings or rock
art of up to 6000 years old and is a unique
safari in South Africa. The celebrated San Cultural
Tour guests can appreciate the ancient Bushman
living sites at first hand and get an in-depth
interpretation of the rock paintings from one
of our expert guides. Guided open 4x4 safaris
guests can also learn more about the various
species of plants and animals that inhabit this
arid area, experience the Southern night skies
by powerful telescope and enjoy a sundowner
with spectacular views from the escarpment into
the Ceres-Karoo lying 700m lower. It is the
ideal destination for those seeking the brightest
stars in Africa, a once in a lifetime glimpse
of a rare endemic bird or perhaps nothing more
than a silence that reaches deep into the soul.
Included in the Kagga Kamma stay is 3 meals
and all activities e.g. Rock paintings tour,
sundowner tour, game viewing drive, night drive
and stargazing. Quad bike safaris and Health
& Beauty spa treatments are for own account.Overnight/Full-board

Day 3: Cape Town
After breakfast, we depart for Cape Town. On
route we pass through the KOUE BOKKEVELD.
This is the area north of the Gydo Pass. A wide
range of fruit is grown in this valley. The
Koue Bokkeveld is not only famous for its red
apples, but also for producing, pears, peaches,
plums apricots, potatoes, onions and wheat.
The PRINCE ALFRED’S HAMLET village is
10 km north of Ceres and was founded in 1861
and named after the second son of Queen Victoria
who had visited South Africa the year before.
Mainly deciduous fruit is farmed. The town has
shown rapid growth in industry and business
development in the past five years. As we enter
the CERES KAROO, from the Karoo Poort, we will
see the vast panorama of the Ceres Karoo. A
level, open, shallow valley with a melancholy
atmosphere surrounds it as though it remembers
past years. Now forlorn, the Karoo awaits its
inevitable end via erosion. Guests may choose
between drop-off at their respective city accommodation
or at the airport.
